Our car cleaning chamois leathers are processed from specially selected sheepskins and tanned using cod-liver oil and buffed by skilled craftsmen. This unique tannage is an age-old process which preserves the leather, maintains its open fibre structure and produces its exceptional absorbency, natural rich yellow colour and soft feel. Nothing in the world will dry better!
Each Autoday chamois leather is inspected and electronically measured to ensure a generous six square feet. Genuine full-oil chamois leather is a unique and totally natural product which, well cared for, will provide long satisfactory service.
Preparing your chamois for first use - 3 simple steps
Before using a new chamois, it is important to remove any lint and excess tanning oils or lint from the buffing process. These oils help preserve the chamois during shipping or if stored for long periods, but it is important to remove these before using. If not removed, the oils may cause streaking on the vehicle surface.
Following these steps will help ensure that your genuine leather chamois will perform as intended.
- Wash the chamois in a bucket or bowl of warm, soapy water. DO NOT USE STRONG DETERGENTS. Be sure to use a pH-neutral, mild product, designed for cleaning vehicle finishes (car wash soap, for example).
- Fold the chamois and wring out thoroughly by twisting. A yellow colour in the soapy water is completely normal.
- Rinse the chamois thoroughly and then soak again in clean rinse water. Fold the chamois and wring out thoroughly by twisting. A yellow colour in the rinse water is completely normal.
Steps 1 to 3 should be repeated, with clean water, until the rinse water is no longer tinted yellow and is completely clear.
